Definitions:

Affiliation AgreementLegal document outlining the partnership between the placement and the college.  
BC ECE RegistryGovernment agency that regulates ECE Standards of Practice, certification, and Post Secondary Institution requirements.
InstructorECCE Faculty member assigned either ECC 140, ECC 141, ECC 142, ECC 245, ECC 246. The instructor is responsible for assigning practicum placements, facilitating seminar classes, conducting on site practicum visits, marking all assignments, and assessing learning outcomes met by the student.
Mentor:Person assigned by the placement to oversee and support the learning of the student. The Mentor must hold, at minimum, a current certificate with the BC ECE Registry in the certification that the practicum student is working on.  The mentor is engaged in modelling practice and collaborative dialogue with the student to support their learning.
Placement  Early Learning Environment with qualified mentor. Usually a licensed child care facility but may include a Strong Start program, and other early learning programs that are exempt from licensing.
SeminarA weekly meeting with the students and instructors to review assignments, discuss practice, and pedagogy.
Student:Learner registered in the practicum course.  
Student Success CurriculumTime at the beginning of each practicum course between when course starts and placements begin.  The focus of this time in the classroom is on professional practice, team work, observation, and other skills students will needs for success in practicum for that semester.  These hours count towards practicum and are lead by faculty.
