The overall purpose of the second practice experience (ECCE 141) is the application of theory and knowledge to ECCE practice and the concurrent development of practice skills as they work towards completion of the following learning outcomes at a competent level:
- Demonstrate an understanding of child growth and development from birth to 12 years of age across all developmental domains.
- Demonstrate an understanding and respect for children’s rights as an essential part of good practice, including inherent rights and the relationship between rights and responsibilities.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the high level of professional accountability and ethical behaviour that is required in ECCE, using the ECEBC Code of Ethics to guide decision making and judgment.
- Demonstrate an Understanding that children and families are part of systems; that services develop and operate within systems and that child care is part of the larger community social service system.
- Communicate effectively with verbal, non-verbal, written and, alternative communication methods, individually, and within groups to make decisions, solve problems, and resolve conflicts.
- Honour and affirm diversity by clarifying own biases, demonstrating cultural competence, implementing anti-bias strategies, and promoting inclusion.
- Engage in the process of observation, documentation, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Form caring relationships that are based on genuineness, respect and empathy.
- Continually reflect on and improve practice through an understanding of the impact of one’s values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviour on children, families and communities.
- Demonstrate current knowledge of:
- the community in which they practice,
- the regulatory framework within which child care services operate, and the organizational and regulatory framework of the child care service in which they practice.
